Yoga

A physical and meditative practice of returning again and again to the present moment, through awareness of the body, the breath, and the ever-changing nature of our inner experience.

Public classes

Sundays 4:30 pm Yin at Manumission Yoga, Paddington.

My approach

I support you in class to journey back to yourself.

Yoga isn’t about achieving a certain pose; it’s meant as a moving meditation. The breath and the body are your anchors whenever you get lost in a sea of thoughts.

My classes combine movement, breath, meditation, music, and reflection to create a soft place for inner observation, exploration, and stillness.

Whatever you come with – stress, tension, tiredness, a dense emotional landscape – my hope is by the end of class, you will have returned home: to that spacious place of pure awareness, your true nature, your original restful state.

Training & Practice

In 2019 I travelled to the island of Nusa Lembongan in Bali, and was taught the Ashtanga Vinyasa method by David Adame of All Yoga School. I am devoted to practicing weekly with various teachers in Sydney, learning great wisdom and technique by spending time with myself on my own mat – the truest form of training.

I’ve written a (love) letter to my yoga practice. You can read it here.

Kind words

  • — Keely M.

Dear Margery, this studio and practice has transformed my life and ignited my love for yoga, and so much of that comes from you. I've loved being a part of the beautiful energy you create in every class. I'm not sure that any other classes will top yours, however I know that you have left a mark on how I will practice, wherever I am. Thank you for your support, the life lessons, the words of wisdom, and helping me become a better yogi.

    Lots of love always

Margery is an absolutely incredible teacher and practitioner of both Ashtanga and Hatha. Her genuine commitment, experience and love come through in everything from her sequences and adjustments, to her warm check-ins before and after each class.

Catering to the varying levels in the room, Margery guides the class with that sweet balance of motivation, and permission to pull back, with an emphasis on personal embodiment.

I’ve been teaching myself for a while, and I adore when I find a teacher whose class facilitation both holds and deepens one’s practice. Gratitude for you Margery. Always worth attending. 🙏🏼♥️

Margery never fails to pull you out of this mad world, ground you in breath and sensation, push you towards the potential of your strength and flexibility, and share an “uh huh” moment of wisdom and insight along the way.

  • — Jane W.

Margery’s teaching brings me to a grounded sense of calm and alignment in body, mind and soul. Firmly rooted in time-honoured yogic lineage, her sequencing is balanced and thoughtful, offering a complete and nourishing practice, every time. She also often incorporates pranayama (breath work) to support the asana practice and dharmic sharing to reflect and inspire.

    Highly recommend!

Margery has a unique ability to immediately read and connect with her students. She, too, humbly assumes the role of student, but gently and fearlessly guides each class through any uncertainty or discomfort. You will leave each class of Margery’s feeling uplifted, positively challenged and whole – such is her impact.

Margery is thoughtful and sincere towards her students, drawing the whole room in and making you feel at home. She has a way of challenging you while being lighthearted and fun. Her classes are like a dance - a delight to move through!
